I am pleased to announce that Durant Barristers has implemented the following changes to it's billing, purchasing and travel policies as a result of U.S. President Trump's 15% tariff against Canada.
I encourage other law firms and professional service firms to consider how they may help our fellow Canadians during these difficult times and send a message that the Canadian business community will not be bullied by a tyrant.
Effective March 1, 2025, we are offering discounted rates to all new and existing small business clients on both new and existing files. The discount will be displayed on client bills as the "Trump Tariff Discount".
We are reviewing our list of suppliers and moving towards Canadian options for office supplies and software requirements.
We will not be engaging in any optional travel to the United States for business development.
We will not be travelling to attend any conferences in the United States.
We will not be renewing our membership in legal associations based in the United States unless they make public statements denouncing Trump's tariffs on Canada.
If you own your own business, I challenge you to think about ways that you can help your fellow Canadians during this time and how you can send a message to American companies and business leaders that their President is costing them money.
Elbows up, Canada.
